1Increasing collaboration between human and animal medicine (Friday); 2Genetic testing and personalized medicine (Saturday morning); 3Harmonizing the EU medical curriculum (graduate and postgraduate training of specialists) (Saturday afternoon). The session of Friday will be dedicated to possible ways of improving collaboration between human and animal medicine. Should the grant request to the Rome Foundation be accepted, it will correspond to the kick-off meeting of the FEAM project “Increasing the collaboration between human and animal medicine at national and European level: a multidisciplinary and international effort”. The session of Saturday morning will cover the topic of genetic testing and personalized medicine, already discussed at the 2006 FEAM Conference in Halle and the 2008 FEAM Conference in Paris. This time, the topic will be discussed from a public health perspective and will refer to the joint EASAC/FEAM project on “Genetic testing as an instrument for disease prevention: evaluation of policy issues for direct consumer access”. The session of Saturday afternoon will address the problem of the mobility of physicians throughout Europe, exploring potential solutions such as the harmonization of medical curricula, the accreditation of medical schools and the evaluation criteria and tests of physicians. The session will host presentations on specific experiences from different EU countries.
